The second stop on the Northern Ontario Walleye Trail for the 2023 season was a hot one in the community of Dubreuilville.  The DMWD committee does their best to go all out for their anglers.  They want them to leave with wonderful memories and good fishing stories.  It is their goal to make sure their town is on the map and anglers get hooked!

Although every volunteer and member of the organizing committee is important in Dubreuilville, their treasurer and secretary deserve special mention.  Brigette Guay and Natalie Gendron are dedicated, organized, determined, generous and thoughtful people!  They are the ones behind the scenes that make sure everything is done right – from registration to handing out the cheques, t-shirt sizing to posters – they do it all and the DMWD is lucky to have them!  In fact, Chantal wishes she could clone them!

The Friday night rules meeting heard many stories of larger fish being caught during the prefish bringing many to think we might see some big bags.    The water was high in the reservoir this year and anglers had to be cautious of the floating wood.  Despite this, the rumours proved true and after 2 hard days of fishing (better than 2 easy days at work, right?) we saw more big fish caught at the DMWD 2023 than recent memory recalls.

Even with the Biggest Fish (Fxr prize) and Biggest Bag (Garmin prize), First Place didn’t come easy for Jason Doyon and Rob LaFramboise from the Sault.  Right on their heels, only 0.63 lbs behind were locals Francis and Jessy DeChamplain.  The biggest movers of the weekend, Miguel and Daniel Tailleur took home Streamside’s Cool Under Pressure prize package.  Locals Don and Justin Boughner were awarded the J&B & Mercury sponsored motor for the Mystery Weight.

It was another great weekend in Dubreuilville, and the NOWT can’t wait to be back for the Championship in 2024!
