Kenogamisis Lake in Geraldton, Ontario welcomed 120 teams to the 2017 Geraldton Walleye Classic held this past weekend (June 24-25).  Angling fans were treated to a parade of tournament boats right through the middle of town, signalling the start of a weekend of competitive walleye fishing.

Saturday morning (Day

1) started with clear skies for the take off.  As the day progressed, lucky teams trickled in to tournament HQ to weigh in their large fish.  By the end of the day, the leader board was established and the top 3 teams revealed.

Day 1 Results (weight in pounds)

  • 1st Andrew Bennett / Ken Casey (13.57)
  • 2nd Dean Bliss / Rob Keating (12.11)
  • 3rd Dave Lepage / Guy Dubosq (11.58)

Anglers gathered to discuss the day’s results and Sunday’s tactics while refueling over a hearty steak dinner and cold beverages.

Sunday morning was a contrast to Saturday – Cloudy, cold and wet.  Excellent tournament angling weather!  As the day progressed the weather improved. But for some the day ended incredibly.

Day 2 Results (weight in pounds)

  • 1st Frank Dzijacky / Patrcick Dzijacky (12.53)
  • 2nd Jacques Bernard / Annie Bernard (10.58)
  • 3rd Keith Hryciw / Darolyn Hryciw (9.49)

As the totals were added up, the final results presented 3 classic scenarios to end the tournament:  A large established lead was enough to offset a poor second day, quality consistent days added up, and a focused second day to overcome a challenging first day.  Only 0.26 lbs separated first from third place!

Final Results (weight in pounds)

  • 1st Andrew Bennett / Ken Casey (19.06)
  • 2nd Keith Hryciw / Darolyn Hryciw (18.86)
  • 3rd Frank Dzijacky / Patrick Dzijacky (18.8)
