This weeks angler profile I had met and fished against since the mid-1990s.

He’s always kind and encouraging to others, along with his calm and soft spoken character makes him very approachable.

Don’t let that fool you as after all these years of competing in the NOWT, he still has the drive and ability to put big bags together, which in turn has placed him on the podium in many of the events he has competed in.

I like to introduce to you this weeks Northern Ontario Walleye Trail Pro, Luc Audet.

Q: Where were you born?

A: I was born in Kapuskasing. Lifelong resident.

Q: Who played a role in getting you started in fishing?

A: My mother and my step-father loved the outdoors. We travelled a lot throughout North America. We would pull a small camper and stayed at most provincial, national and state parks and casting a line was always on the agenda.

Q: As a youth, where did you fish and for what?

A: We fished mostly in the Kapuskasing area camping at Rufus Lake Rainbow Lodge and Keenoa lake. At that time we caught a lot more pike mainly because my stepfather enjoyed a fishier tasting fish!

Q: What age did you start fishing?

A: Probably 7-8 years of age.

Q: How did you get into Walleye Tournament Fishing and why?

A: I was fascinated with the ability of good anglers to catch walleye when they were hard to catch. Watching the In Fisherman Trail on tv and fishing the first Kapuskasing walleye tournament in which my partner and I finished fourth. After that I was hooked.

Q: What was your most memorable fishing experience and why?

A: I have many unforgettable moments fishing however guiding and filming for the Canadian Sportfishing crew was something I’ll treasure forever. They were are a great crew and I got to learn a lot from Italo Labignan.

Q: List any Anglers that helped you learn more about fishing over the years.

A: That’s a long list. Obviously Italo, but some buddies when I was younger included Paul Godard, my present tournament partner, Dan Breault, Dennis Martin, Danny and DJ and virtually everyone I’ve fished with or against. It’s a constant learning process.

Q: List sponsors and tournament finishes.

A: Princecraft boats is my sole sponsor. I haven’t won what I call a “major” tournament but through the years I’ve managed two second place finishes, 10-15 top tens and many top 20 finishes.

Q: Biggest fishing supporters over the years?

A: I’ve been fairly self motivated in terms of a support structure for my fishing passion.

Q: What are some of your favourite fish you like to fish for and why?

A: Walleye is the species I love the most but I also like catching speckled trout and splake. They all present their own challenges and make delicious table fare.

Q: What is your favourite fishing technique(s) for walleyes?

A: Jigging is by far my preferred technique. I love the thrill of finding them up tight against a shoreline. You have to be able to read the water and the make up of the shoreline. It’s about feeling that subtle bite.

Q: Why do you fish walleye tournaments?

A: Cause I love to fish! Love to compete and meet like-minded people.

Q: Why did you agree to have your bio done?

A: I’ve been doing the circuit for a long time and decided to take you up on it. Plus I’ve enjoyed reading all the stuff you’ve written about other anglers.

Q: Any tips you would give to a new walleye angler looking at fishing the NOWT?

A: For new anglers I’d tell them to talk to a veteran of the tour about the preparation it takes to tackle a big tournament. Read good articles related to techniques and to save your pennies cause they aren’t cheap!! lol

Q: What would be some of your greatest accomplishments over the years of fishing?

A: Craig Santala and I held a fishing seminar a couple years back which was well attended to my surprise. Never thought I’d be onstage teaching walleye techniques. Fishing with Italo Labignan and landing a 13.5lb walleye.

I would like to thank Luc for taking the time to answer these questions during a busy time with his new work position.
