Eric GermainI have always said that there are so many good anglers living in Northeastern Ontario. Some enjoy fishing with friends and family while others enjoy tournament fishing. Then you have the anglers like Eric Germain who enjoy both.

I met Eric a few years ago and the first thing I noticed about him was his passion for fishing.

Although Eric camps at the Cache Campground (Kenogamissi Lake) it isn’t uncommon to find him fishing for different species at any of the numerous lakes, rivers or streams throughout the northeastern Ontario region with friends and family.

Since his passion is so strong and he is always willing to learn new techniques, Eric decided to fish some tournaments to gain some more knowledge about walleyes and put his skills to the test against other anglers.

As a matter of fact, Eric has been fishing with his father-in-law in a few tournaments the last couple of years.

The last three years he has managed a 7th and 9th place finish at a couple of NOWT events.

His favorite techniques for fishing walleye is bottom bouncing with either Northland Gum Drop floaters or a plain hook, and Go-Getters with leaches.

I learned that the only time Eric doesn’t fish much is during the fall when he turns his focus on hunting big game or partridge hunting with his two sons. After his fall hunt is over and the lakes are safe enough for ice fishing, he is back fishing with friends and family again.

I would like to thank Eric for the invite to spend the day fishing with him.

Although we didn’t catch any trophies on this outing, I had a great time asking him some questions and answering the numerous questions he had for me in return.

Isn’t that what fishing is all about? Sharing information and some laughs with friends!
